Job Description:

The RSC would be responsible for assisting and planning, organizing, and implementing programs and services designed to promote independent living. Emphasis is placed on utilizing existing community resources to provide programs and services to the residents, as well as developing services within the community setting.

  • Assists in the provision of a social and physical environment which responds to the psychological, social and physical needs of the residents
  • Assists residents in planning appropriate and functional lifestyles, including employment, social and recreational activities, medical/dental attention, and contacts with family and friends
  • Assists residents in obtaining services available in the community by making appropriate referrals to various local, state and federal programs, such as transportation, financial assistance, counseling, health programs, and other essential services.  Acts as an advocate for residents in obtaining and maintaining needed services
  • Works with residents, families, support services, on-site staff, and Project Administrator to develop, coordinate and implement programs/services which might be provided at the community, including but not limited to, education programs, health screening, social/recreational opportunities, safety/security programs, arts and crafts, skills development, library, entertainment, and other special events
  • Serves as a liaison with community agencies and organiza­tions that may offer services to, or receive services from, the community and its residents
  • Coordinates and chairs team meetings with residents and community service providers to problem solve with issues concerning independent living
  • Assesses and assists residents in their adjustment to indepen­dent living, particularly during critical periods (crisis interven­tion) when support and assistance are essential
  • Follows up reported security log incidents within 48 hours, documenting any action taken in the log or in a case note report
  • Develops resource materials for use by staff and residents
  • Conducts building tours during regularly scheduled hours
  • Serves as part of a team including administrative staff and front desk staff to ensure the safety of all tenants in the building
  • Provides supervision and guidance to college interns, and community and resident volunteers as needed
  • Implements immediate emergency procedures for the tenants and/or property and provides crisis intervention when on duty and when called upon during off-duty hours by the appropriate staff member
  • Hosts festive events by planning, preparing, cooking and cleaning up after the activities
  • Performs regular or project-related duties on weekends, holidays, inclement weather days and on other scheduled or non-scheduled days as needed and directed by the supervisor to ensure the safety of the tenants, the maintenance of the building and/or the smooth operation of the housing project

    Job Requirements

    The successful Resident Services employee  will have the following qualifications:

    QUALIFICATIONS include the following.

    • Requirements:

      • Training in First Aid and CPR is required
      • Strong proficiency with computers and ability to communicate and correspond professionally and effectively
      • Ability to lift, carry and/or exert force up to 10 pounds
      • Must maintain confidentiality during and after employment

       Minimum Experience/Qualifications:

      • Experience working with people with physical, visual, auditory, mental and/or emotional impairments including experience in crisis intervention and behavior management
      • Familiarity with local, state and federal programs/­services available to individuals with disabilities

      Preferred Skillset:

      • Great interpersonal communication skills and the  ability to initiate, coordinate and maintain ancillary services in a unique residential setting
      • Dedication to taking crea­tive approaches to providing opportunities and services to pro­mote and enhance independent living for individuals with disabilities
